Last Friday I met Steve on my lunch break at The Flower Cup in Chester. I first discovered this delightful place when I was walking along the rows on Watergate street, I passed a white shop, with large windows displaying flowers like a florist but the room also housed tables, chairs and what looked like a coffee bar, was it a florist or was it a cafe? Well it turns out its both! Later on that day I found the Flower Cup on Instagram and after admiring post after post I decided I must pay it a visit.
The shop is owned by a couple who have combined their love for fresh flowers with their passion for proper Italian style coffee. As you enter the shop you are greeted with the pretty array of flowers, great selection of cacti and the heady smell of freshly ground coffee – what could be better!? There are plenty of wooden tables with brightly coloured painted chairs, plants hanging from the ceiling, it really is the most charming place.
On my first visit here I had an excellent brunch of scrambled eggs, avocado and smoked salmon on toasted ciabatta, since then the Flower Cup have been working on a new menu. The new menu offers plenty of tasty breakfast and brunch options, salads, build your own bruchettas, waffles and the famous holy guacamoley toastie which I’d been dying to try! Bacon, cheese, and homemade guac in between thick slices of toasted bread served with a little pot of chilli sauce, it was delicious! As we were waiting for our food, we were kindly given a coffee for free as they were barista training a new member of staff, the coffee tasted great and was beautifully presented. Even though I was absolutely stuffed, I couldn’t leave without taking one of their delicious cakes home for later. It was a difficult decision – lemon meringue blondies, peanut butter brownies, carrot cake, lemon cake, but the cake that stood out for me today was the gluten free “Persian Love Cake” with pistachio and rose.
This really is a unique place in Chester with so much to offer. In July they are hosting The Cheshire Dining Experience where diners will be served up four courses of food all sourced within 10 miles from Chester. It’s also perfect for baby showers, hen parties and birthday parties where you can drink great coffee whilst making your own floral crown!
